Art and creativity have always been a part of my life. Whether I’m painting, drawing, writing, working with clay, or making jewelry, I’m always creating something!
Jewelry, as an art form, has been with us through the ages. When earliest man stooped down and picked up a few shells or seeds, strung them on a long strand of grass and fastened them around his wrist, he was looking for a way to express himself. Jewelry is the same today. Often referred to as visual poetry, jewelry has the power to create moods and reactions. Certain stones and colors produce calming effects while others excite and rejuvenate. With this in mind, I create jewelry that is unique and expressive.
I love every aspect of jewelry making—from choosing and learning about the stones, to using the tools of the craft, to making my own ceramic beads. Design is everywhere you look and inspiration follows. My muses live in everyday life, and I draw on my family and hobbies for ideas. My husband, son, kitty, yoga, birding and nature are at my core, and you can find their influences in all of my jewelry and beads.
I hold degrees in animal health technology and German literature from the University of Cincinnati. My master's work was in German literature at the University of Cincinnati and Hamburg University in Germany. Throughout my university career I also studied art to fuel my creative side. I worked as a technical writer, illustrator, and editor in the software industry before starting Kelly Breen. For the past six years, I have studied ceramics and pottery under Pam Ives, master potter and teacher.
